Welcome to Flutes at the Barns, residential flute courses in the UK for adult players of all levels!  I am delighted to invite you to take part in one of several musical courses to be held in 2008 and 2009:

Each course provides the opportunity for every participant to take part in three days of flute playing activities in idyllic English countryside settings; there are three venues for 2008, each combining comfortable, individual, and luxury accommodation on the same site as musical activities.  Every course is open to flute players of all standards and abilities aged eighteen and over.

The courses, run by Zoe Booth, consist of the following activities:

  • group warm-ups with lots of hints and tips
  • ensemble playing in a variety of styles
  • chamber music with coaching
  • individual tuition with Zoe Booth
  • flute choirs
  • work with professional accompanist Rachael Buxton
  • musical/discussion workshops
  • the chance to hear and participate in live performance and/or masterclass
  • those who wish to may also play piccolo, alto and/or bass flutes.

During the course All Flutes Plus will be visiting, providing opportunity to try instruments and purchase music and accessories.

The intimate nature of the limited course sizes allows each participant to benefit from a high level of participation and a great deal of individual contact with tutors within the group; each course member will also have been given prior chance to influence the course structure by indicating their preferential activities.  Participants may take the opportunity to perform solo if desired, in performances or a masterclass, however please note that any solo work in front of others is an entirely voluntary element of the course and nervous players can be assured they will find the course entierely non-challenging and supportive.

Since 2003 the courses have developed to cultivate a non-competitive, sociable and encouraging atmosphere with a focus on excellent, all-inclusive music-making, expert tuition, good food and good company.  Flutes at the Barns is exceptional in its value for money exclusivity and level of involvement for all performers.

I look forward to welcoming you!  Kind regards,

Zoe Booth
