The Galadriel Ensemble

Concerts

The Galadriel Ensemble has an ongoing programme of lunchtime and evening chamber music recitals featuring the uppermost musicians from the Southeast. Their programmes are carefully devised to include varied and discriminating chamber works, combining much-loved chamber works alongside lesser-known works of quality which might otherwise be rarely played. Each concert is presented with, where appropriate, interesting and explanatory commentary, The Ensembles’ aim is to engage concert-goers in discovering the wealth of quality repertoire of the mixed chamber ensemble (flute, strings and piano), including classical and contemporary music and new arrangements.

As a duo, trio or quartet, their constantly expanding repertoire includes much baroque and classical masterpieces for flute and continuo, including sonatas by JS Bach, CPE Bach, Boismortier and Handel. The Galadriel Ensemble has also given performances of the great classical flute quartets, including those of Mozart, Haydn and J C Bach, and those of later composers, such as Rossini and Beethoven. They have also given performances of original works by Telemann, Debussy, Gaubert, Danzi, Martinu and Villa-Lobos ‘Jet Whistle,’ for which Zoë and Jessica were placed runner-up in the 2001 All Flutes Plus Flute Competition.

Based in the Southeast they give many recitals, predominantly as flute and cello duo across London, Hertfordshire and Essex including their regular performances at the Maltings Arts Theatre in St Albans and Rothamsted Manor in Harpenden. The Galadriel Ensemble is also highly in demand by organisers of large corporate and charitable events.
