The Galadriel Ensemble
Live Music Education Workshops
The Workshops
The Galadriel Ensemble provides Live Music Education Workshops for large groups of students in schools in Hertfordshire and the Southeast, visiting Key Stage One and Two students for a whole morning, afternoon or day. The Musical Workshop Presentations require students not only to listen, but also to interact musically and intellectually, individually and as a group. They are encouraged to listen, create rhythm using their bodies or other instruments, sing and even conduct! The aim of the workshops is to provide access to live musicians while intensively addressing the National Curriculum for Music in a memorable and innovative way.
The Musicians
Live Music Education Workshops are given by Zoë Booth (flute) and Jessica Cox (cello), both experienced and enthusiastic music teachers working in schools in Hertfordshire and the South East.
Live music presented in an interactive and imaginative way
The Galadriel Ensemble tailors their live Music Workshop Presentation to suit the requirements of the school, the national curriculum, the age and standard of the students, and to fit in with the school day.
Presentations to older students (in years 5 and 6) are approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour long. Presentations to those in lower years are shorter; from 30 minutes to one hour in length. The type and length of workshop required will be decided in conjunction with you and your school.
Aware that for most students our visit will provide rare, and possibly unique, access to live musicians, we centre our presentations around high quality musical performances on our instruments, presenting a wide variety of styles and ideas. Along the way we encourage all the students to respond to questions, use their imaginations, volunteer and participate musically, usually with much fun and excitement! A typical programme covers classical, world and famous music (from 1600 to the present day) as well as songs and musical composition!
Musical Extension Activities
We are happy to work with your class teachers or independently, providing follow-up worksheets if required, or incorporating current study projects or student performances into our specially devised workshop. After the initial presentations, at your request, we are happy to work in smaller groups with students to introduce project topics or work with present instrumental students on presentation skills. For each and every school our programme will differ according to the needs of the school and the number and level of students.
