After a four bar introduction for the whole ensemble, the main body of the piece starts with an alto flute solo, adding the higher parts one by one \u2013 each contributes a simple rhythmic riff, which weave together into an intricate accompaniment for the tune, played by first flute (doubled by optional piccolo).
