Humoresque by Dvorak, arranged by Zoë Booth for four or more flutes/flute choir

The Czech composer Dvorak (1841-1904) began his musical life as a viola player, discovering his talent for composition whilst still a young man. Despite his formal musical training, the uniqueness of his compositional ‘voice’ lies in the natural influence of folk music which infuses his writing. Dvorak spent most of his life in Prague, where he also taught at the conservatoire, and he was also well received whilst working on invitation in England, Russia and America.

This Humoresque was originally written as the seventh of a set of eight with the same title, composed to be performed on the piano. It is an excellent example of his ability to write popular and tuneful folk-like melodies, and has become widely known and enjoyed.
