Intermezzo by Mascagni, arranged by Zoë Booth for four or more flutes/flute choir

£ 8.95

The Italian composer Pietro Mascagni wrote mainly for the opera; after studying in Milan he worked as a touring opera conductor alongside his early work as a composer.  Although many of his works did not receive the critical acclaims of his famous opera ‘Cavalleria Rusticana,’ he is credited, along with Puccini and others, with the development of ‘Verismo’ (realism) operatic style, by which realistic and gritty stories are depicted through his scores.

The Intermezzo was written for Mascagni’s most famous one-act opera, which was first staged in 1890, and remains his most well-known work today.  This arrangement for flute choir features a prominent part for the first flute, with the rich harmonies provided by the ensemble, enhanced by the low tones of the alto and bass flutes.
