Jazzilienne (after Faure's Sicilienne op. 78) by Zoë Booth

Jazzilienne - written in 2010 by Zoë Booth - is a lively jazz waltz version of Fauré’s famous Sicilienne for flute from Pelléas et Melisande, op. 78!  A great novelty piece with energy and swing, which features showy sections which sound like improvisation; the central section, by contrast, is smooth and calmly played, over rich harmonies.

"Jazzilienne, as its name suggests, starts with the well-known “Sicilienne" by Faure and gradually the theme becomes more jazz-like in its rhythms and style, culminating in a flute cadenza. I didn’t learn this piece overnight (!) but, with practice, it was very well received."
