La Donna e Mobile from Rigoletto by Verdi, arranged by Zoë Booth for four or more flutes/flute choi

£ 8.40

Guiseppe Verdi was born to a largely non-musical family, discovering a passion for the musical life he would lead at the age of just seven. By the time he was nineteen he was already composing and moved to Milan to focus upon his operatic output. Mixed success followed until the opera ‘Nabucco’ catapulted him to international fame. Many great operas followed – ‘La Traviata,’ ‘La Forza del Destino’ and ‘Aida’ – and the opera-hungry people of Italy grew to admire and respect his music; when he died it is reported that nearly 30 000 people attended his funeral.

The song ‘La Donna e Mobile’ was composed for Verdi’s opera ‘Rigoletto,’ produced in Venice in 1851; the opera was a huge and instant success. This typically dramatic and catchy melody has been used by popular media over recent years and is arranged here for a flute choir of mixed ability, with optional alto flute, piccolo and ‘easy’ part for beginner player(s).
