Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson, arranged by Zoë Booth for four or more flutes/flute choir

£ 8.95

Despite its snowy connotations, it is said that most of this work was conceived by Leroy Anderson (1908-1975) during a heatwave in Connecticut in 1946, with the first public performance in 1948.

Although we associate this music with Christmas, there are no seasonal references in the lyrics themselves. Typically of Anderson’s style, his music is augmented by the inclusion of extra instruments and sounds, and that is just as true in the flute choir version here; sleigh-bells are a great addition, and extra horse whinnying is to be encouraged! In this arrangement, the melody-lines are shared amongst all the flute parts and piccolo; although the alto and bass flutes, piccolo and clarinet parts are not required to give an effective account, they have plenty to do when available, broadening the scope of any festive performance.
