The Man I Love by Gershwin, arranged by Zoë Booth for four or more flutes/flute choir

£ 12.60

The list of George Gershwin’s songs which have remained in the repertoire to this day is long; his works have been often admired and recorded by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. Although remembered principally for his prolific output as a writer of songs and musicals, Gershwin had also studied classical music and was interested in the music of Debussy and, especially, Ravel.

‘The Man I Love’ was written in 1924 and tried as a number in several of Gershwin’s shows before becoming a non-show hit in 1928. The flute choir arrangement shares the melody part amongst all players – including low flutes – and requires good ensemble co-ordination for the emotive chromatic flourishes which occur between phrases.
